Unique Piece Tiffany & Co. East West Automatic
This East West Automatic is a customised one-off piece with an exclusive “Tiffany blue” number 15 at 3 o’clock, available for the same price as the standard model.
This is certainly a striking-looking watch, with its elongated rectangular case, its dial rotated 90° to the right, and offset bracelet fittings at 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock. The design of the East West Automatic by Tiffany & Co., launched in 2015, the year of the great American jeweller’s return to watchmaking, owes its unique appearance to an unusual folding travel clock dating from 1940. But this model has another original feature that makes it truly unique: this is the first time an East West Automatic has displayed a number 15 at the 3 o’clock position, in the house’s signature pale turquoise. With this exclusive piece on your wrist, you will feel as if you just stepped off the set of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
This watch that is unique in the world was created to mark the 15th anniversary of the WorldTempus site belonging to the founder of the Fine Watch Club, who now wishes to enable a club member to enjoy owning it. This private collector’s item has never been worn.
The quirky design of the East West Automatic would suit someone easy-going enough to wear an idiosyncratic timepiece, but who also values elegance and fine watchmaking. With your arms in front of you, on your computer keyboard or at the wheel of your car, there’s no need to turn your wrist to tell the time: the East West Automatic is correctly orientated. This timepiece has a discreet retro charm and a certain New York je ne sais quoi, without being obviously vintage. It echoes the traditional watchmaking aesthetic of Tiffany & Co., with its haute horlogerie finishes, Swiss made automatic movement, sunray guilloché dial and sapphire crystals front and back, all of which no doubt contributed to the GPGH’s decision to shortlist the East West Automatic for the Petite Aiguille category at the GPHG in 2016. You have to turn the watch over to discover another original feature – the half-moon-shaped aperture on the back, revealing the movement
