“Sport is Health!” could be TAG Heuer’s new motto with this new connected watch. Clearly positioned in the sports and health niche, the TAG Heuer Calibre E4 will follow you at your own pace. I have to admit, it did take me a while to set the thing up, much to the amusement of my younger colleagues, who were probably right about my level of tech, but let’s not tell them that, oK? Anyway, having three different operating systems, including Apple, made it easier for me to get started.

Once over this initial hurdle, here I was with this beautiful watch on my wrist. It was both sober and elegant and equipped with simple and effective features. I chose the dial with the heart rate monitor, calories, and step counter to measure my effort from my desk to the coffee machine, although I did enter “sport” mode at the end of the day when I had to run for my train! If this watch taught me anything, it is that I really need to start working out again. So, I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to TAG Heuer for this 24/7 health check. Next Saturday will be my last raclette, promise!

I have been following the TAG Heuer connected adventure since the first big press conference at Baselworld back in 2015 and the improvements since then have been truly impressive. This fourth generation of the TAG Heuer connected watch – the Calibre E4 – is, for me, the most exciting yet, as I can now actually wear it! Previous versions were larger, sportier, and chunky at 45mm (there is a new 45mm version too), but this new 42mm looks good even on my ridiculously thin wrist. A 42mm size is still relatively large, you may say, but TAG Heuer has worked the design to make it particularly ergonomic. They have also made the sapphire crystal screen slope over the bezel for maximum screen display, because what’s the point of a small watch if you can’t read the information, right? So, what do  I love about this watch? There is a large choice of dials with everything from sporty chronograph designs to artistic renditions that change colour. The dial backlight also stays on, so you don’t have that ugly black screen when the watch is sleeping.
Then there are all the sports features with steps, heart rate monitor, calories, and so forth, but there are also these new 7-minute high-intensity workouts with animations and notifications. I was a little skeptical about these at first, but they are good fun, and the sort of thing you could do in your hotel room when you are traveling, which for me, is when my fitness plan tends to go south. I would have loved to hang on to it for a little longer to discover all the features in detail, but for now, I can definitely say that the TAG Heuer Calibre E4 gets my thumbs up!

The return of the connected watch! I say “return” as I tested the last version in 2020. What surprised me the most with this new version was how fast it was to synchronize with my phone. With the 2020 edition, it took me a while (I was probably doing it all wrong though), but with this new model, I was able to sync it in under two minutes. It may sound silly, but I found this very impressive.

My first impressions of this fourth-generation watch were that it was very light and comfortable to wear thanks to its rubber strap that hugs the wrist. Another big plus for me was that the TAG Heuer Calibre E4 now has 30% more battery life, lasting all day long, even with a one-hour run. The plethora of sports apps was something that I particularly appreciated too; they were perfect for my active lifestyle. The icing on the cake is that this new version now fits perfectly to the smaller wrist thanks to its new 42mm diameter, so now I can have it all!
